If you can't bear the idea of "dieting" one more time, I don't blame you. It's often this idea that makes us resist changing our eating in order to lose weight.

In many ways we are "comfortable" with where we are, despite not being pleased with the shape our bodies are in. It's easier to stay where we are — our thoughts patterns and behaviors are familiar. Even the body, whatever condition it is in, is the one we are familiar with.

Unfortunately, our culture teaches us to believe that there is something wrong with our judgment and that the only way to lose and maintain weight is to follow some regimen invented by the latest dieting guru. We neither learn to trust ourselves nor our bodies.

Change can be both scary and exhilarating — involving many issues and levels of our being. But, to succeed, we must learn to articulate what is going on for us so that we become conscious of the connection of our thoughts to our eating patterns.

To become conscious of our choices, whether it is with food or other areas of our lives, we need a new vantage point. That is where we begin.

Working with me, you will identify obstacles that had prevented you from losing and maintaining your weight. We will develop new plans of action which encourage you to live with a new perspective — a Mindful Body. That new perspective will influence your eating choices.

If I had a coach helping me during the transitions of my weight loss, I would have understood what was happening much more quickly and easily. I would have felt less ashamed and learned sooner that there was nothing "wrong" with me and believed that I was going to keep my weight off permanently from the very beginning of my weight loss journey.

If you truly want to stop dieting and create a Mindful Body here are some tips to get started.

You are your own measuring stick.
When you use others as your measuring stick you lose a sense of yourself and your values. Role models are good up to a point, but when we obsess about what others have, do or don't do it takes away from our ability to authentically take care of ourselves. Our food choices need to be adjusted and based on our own individual needs and desires. You may wonder how that works in your efforts to lose weight. Together we will explore the best way to put that to work for you. Each of you is a unique individual with an individual capacity to form your own unique solutions.

Stop berating yourself.
Have you ever considered making friends with those places or voices within yourself that criticizes, condemns, makes fun of you or tries to lure you towards actions or food choices that are counter to what you know is "best"?

You may think this is one of the strangest ideas you have ever heard. We are so used to "fighting" against the "bad" things. I believe that there is a positive message underlying the voices of criticism and lures. If you were to befriend these parts of you it may encourage a discussion you have never had before. It may reveal more good things than you might otherwise imagine and you could put down the sword of battle. You may think that this is a strange idea but can you imagine what it would be like to be relieved of your tour of duty in this battle?

Start feeling good about who you are, where you have been and what is possible for you in your mind, body, heart and spirit.
